If I'm not mistaken, it's the highest point in the Smokies. It takes about 25 minutes to get there from Gatlinburg, and if you go before sunrise, it may take a little longer in the dark. You certainly have to be careful on those mountain roads in the dark. But the trip is worth it as there are amazing sunrises to behold. The clouds covered the valley below like a carpet. The sky changed colors as the sun approached, and in October, it's COLD up there with the wind blowing!
