When I started my photographic career, I was lucky enough to land a job at a small family newspaper named The Henderson Daily Dispatch. I was their first full time photographer and it was a good start for my career.
I had a lot of opportunities to learn and grow, and these photos were taken in the days of black and white film and manual focus.
My work at the paper included horrible things happening to people such as wrecks, fires and murder. Some of these images are hard to look at.
But I am proud of my work; while at the paper I earned seven North Carolina Press Association awards.
